AMAZING ACROPOLIS

Athens: 480 BC. Despite the amazing victory against the Persians in the Battle Of Marathon, King Darius burnt the Acropolis to to the ground. General Pericles was elected leader and started an ambitious plan to build a new temple dedicated to Athena (the goddess of warfare) on the top of the sacred rock. My latest trip was to Greece. Our first stop was to the Acropolis complex, which I am going to write about. We first went to the Theater of Dionysus. The Theater was dedicated to Dionysus, the god of wine, theater and fertility. The theaters in Greece have 2 plays: Comedies and Tragedies. Comedies are funny plays and Tragedies are...tragedies. our next stop was at the Sanctuary of Asclepions. Asclepions was the Greek demi-dog of healing. The sanctuary is dedicated to him. The next spot was the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. It was built by the Romans in 161 AD and renovated in 1950. The theater is still used for concerts. The next spot is  the Propylaea, the gateway to the Parthenon. It used to the connect to the Parthenon, but has been destroyed. After that, we saw the temple of Athena Nike. It was built during the war against Sparta. Athena was the goddess of war and people prayed for her to summon her powers against Sparta. The next place was the Erechtion, a temple dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon. It's most famous feature are the small statues of Athena instead of pillars. Last but not least, the enormous Parthenon. It was dedicated to Athena and had a huge gold statue of her. It was huge made of marble. After that we went back down.
